OK, i have to admit I love the Lifetime network! I am an avid watcher. I have watched all three seasons of Army Wives and now that Project Runway is on Lifetime it makes watching it even sweeter. Now lifetime has come out with a new original series called Drop Dead Diva and i have to say that it is a great show! The synopsis of the show is this, a supermodel is killed in a car accident and then she is sent back to earth but instead of being put back into her own body she is put into the body of a plus size lawyer-Jane. At first I was a little hesitant about this show because I thought it would just give plus size women something else to feel bad about, but now that i have seen a few episodes I can officially say that I think this show is fantastic! It is a great perspective to see how a thin girl would react if she had to live one day in a plus size woman's body. She gets to see life through the eyes of someone else, and it is not what she expected. She begins to understand how hard it is to be a plus size woman living in the world today, how judgemental and mean people can be. This weeks episode was about her going into a store that she could once buy clothes from when she was a size 4 ,but now that she is a size 16 she can't. This particular store only sold clothes up to size 10 and when she asked for size 16 they told her that they did not go that high and then asked her to leave. Now, those of you that know me know that I LOVE TO SHOP!!!! I shop frequently at Macy's, New York and CO. ,and Lane Bryant. I have not personally experienced what was depicted in this weeks show ,but is that because I don't live in Chicago, New York, or LA? Is there a difference between living in a small town in Illinois or living in a big city? I have shopped frequently in St. Louis and I don't get any stares from anyone in the stores i go into . I say that I have never received that treatment but i guess i have because i do know what stores i can go into and what stores to stay out of. I know that i cannot go into Hollister, Abercrombie and Fitch, Rave, or Wet seal because they do not carry any clothes that i can wear. Why should any woman feel like she is not good enough to shop in any store that she wants? I love clothes, I love fashion, and some designers I tip my hat to because they have designed a plus size clothing line that matches their normal and petite line. But some designers don't even bother to make clothes past a size 10. Don't they know that the average woman in America wears a size 14!? Clothes and accessories can contribute to a woman's confidence, and all women deserve to feel good about themselves, whether they are size 4 or 24. So I say thank you to Lifetime for creating a show that sheds some light on a subject that no one wants to talk about: the plus size woman. Thank you for being a voice for those who want to speak up but can't. Thank you for being my voice.
